The Singer Sewing Machine and The Dakota in New York City: A Thread

You know the Dakota, at the corner of 72nd and Central Park West in New York, in front of Central Park. It is a monument of the Upper West Side, a German Renaissance castle famously recognized for being the last residence of John Lennon before he was shot in front of the building in 1980.

If you have ever been to New York City, you are familiar with the work of Japanese architect, Yoshio Taniguchi. In 2004, he completed the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) renovation in Manhattan.

“Styliste”, that is what I wanted to be when I was 8 years old growing up in France. A profession that I understood later meant that I wanted to be a fashion designer. Sketching, mood boarding , scrapbooking and later sewing were part of my creative language.

New York, August 2026, I am back on one of the benches of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) ready to resume patterning and handbag design classes.
